Based on cotton export data, India is the third-largest cotton exporter, estimated to export 45 lakh bales (0.76 million MT), or 8% of the 597 lakh bales (10.15 million MT) global cotton export in 2021–22. According to the ICAC Journal "Cotton This Month" - June 1, 2023), the predicted global production for 2022–2023 is 24.51 million metric tons (1441 lakh bales), a 2.8% decrease from the 25.18 million tonnes (1481 lakh bales) projected for the previous year. The estimated global consumption of cotton is 23.79 million tonnes (1399 lakh bales), around 8% less than the projected 25.81 million metric tons (1518 lakh bales) for the previous year, as per International Textiles Data.

As per Cotton Yarn Export Data, the estimated global cotton export is 8.98 million tonnes (528 lakh bales), 8% less than the previous year's export of 9.73 million tonnes (572 lakh bales). The expected total import of cotton is 8.98 million tonnes (528 lakh bales), 6% less than the estimated overall import of 9.60 million tonnes (564 lakh bales) for the previous year. Global ending stocks are projected to be 20.14 million tonnes (1184 lakh bales), 4% more than last year's 19.42 million tonnes (1142 lakh bales).
