On the eve of India's 75th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the government would begin work on the "PM Gati Shakti Master Plan," an INR 100 lakh-crore initiative to create "holistic infrastructure" throughout India. With the "Gati Shakti" project, the government hopes to develop a digital platform that will allow sixteen ministries to "integrate planning and coordinate execution." For a balanced and coordinated approach, each ministry and government department will have access to information on the current and upcoming initiatives. In this blog, we will discuss the Gati Shakti- National Master Plan for Infrastructure Development.
The National Master Plan
for Multi-modal Connectivity, PM Gati Shakti, was introduced by the Prime
Minister and is essentially a digital platform to bring together 16 Ministries,
including the Roads and Railways, for connected planning and coordinated
implementation of infrastructure connectivity projects. People, products, and
services will be able to move from one mode of transportation to another thanks
to the multi-modal connection, which will offer integrated and seamless
connectivity. It will speed up last-mile infrastructure connectivity and cut
down on people's journey time.
PM GatiShakti master plan
uses coordinated, holistic, integrated, and thorough planning that is built on
knowledge, technology, and innovation to accelerate growth while building
reliable infrastructure.
The PM GatiShakti National
Master Plan offers a thorough database of the current and upcoming projects of
different Ministries, such as Infrastructure Ministries, Ministries and States
involved in the development of Economic Zones, integrated with 200+ GIS layers,
thereby facilitating planning, designing, and carrying out infrastructure
projects with a shared vision.
With an aim of "sabka sath, sabka vikas" and a goal of making India a $5 trillion economy by 2024–2025, this government wanted to scale much far greater heights with advanced coordination and synergies among numerous Union Ministries and State governments. This government had been largely successful in establishing a culture of efficiency, transparency, faster, and smoother last mile delivery of services.
The seamless flow of
people, products, and services from one mode of transportation to another will
be made possible by the multi-modal connection. Road, rail, power, and other
infrastructure will be connected by the last mile thanks to the National Master
Plan. People have access to things like gas pipelines and optical fiber cables.
In order to provide
integrated and seamless connectivity to commuters, public transportation
platforms including the Indian Railways, Metro Trains, Regional Rapid Transit
System (RRTS), Interstate Buses, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), and Aviation can no
longer operate independently. Integrated planning for the deployment of
effective interchanges must come first.
The plan will notify the
general public and the business community of the planned connection projects,
as well as those of neighbouring business hubs, industrial districts, and the
local environment. As a result, the investors will be able to organize their
enterprises in advantageous sites, increasing synergies.
Also, According to Shipment Data, ports, shipping and
waterways Shri Sarbananda Sonawal, the government has identified a pipeline 81
public partnership projects worth $5.18 billion to build berths and terminals
across major ports by 2024-25.
Some of the major six pillars of PM Gati Shakti are-
With a single platform, it will encompass all of the Ministries and Departments' current and future activities. Every Department will now be able to observe each other's operations, providing essential data for thorough project planning and implementation.
Through the PM Gati Shakti master plan, different Departments will be able to prioritize their projects through cross-sectorial interactions.
After identifying significant gaps, the National Master Plan will help other ministries in planning projects. The plan will assist in choosing the fastest and least expensive path for moving items from one location to another.
Various Ministries and Departments frequently operate in isolation. The project's planning and execution are not coordinated, which causes delays. By ensuring that work is coordinated amongst the many departments, PM Gati Shakti will aid in the holistic synchronization of each department's activities as well as those of the various layers of administration.
The plan will compile all the data in one location using GIS-based spatial planning and analytical tools with more than 200 levels, giving the executing agency more visibility.
All Ministries and
Departments will now be able to visualize, review, and monitor the development
of cross-sectoral projects through the GIS platform, as the growth of the
projects will be updated on a regular basis on the portal, and satellite
imagery will provide on-ground progress periodically. It will aid in
determining the important corrections and updates required for the master plan.
The Prime Minister's
continuous initiatives to build Next Generation Infrastructure that enhances
Ease of Living and Ease of Doing Business have produced PM Gati Shakti. People,
commodities, and services will be able to move from one mode of transportation to
another thanks to the multi-modal connection, which will offer integrated and
seamless connectivity. It will speed up last-mile infrastructure connectivity
and cut down on people's journey time.
Also, it enables the investors to plan their businesses at suitable
locations leading to enhanced synergies. It will create multiple employment
opportunities and give a boost to the economy.
