Following an anticipated record harvest of 120.21 million tonnes, the Indian government authorised the export of 25 Lakh Metric Tonnes (LMT) of wheat and an additional 5 LMT of wheat products for the 2025–2026 marketing year in February 2026 to stabilize domestic markets and support farmers.

Additionally, Senegal (5 lakh tonnes in six months), Indonesia (2 lakh tonnes), Mali (1 lakh tonnes), and the Gambia (50,000 tonnes in six months) are allowed to receive shipments of broken rice.
In a notification, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) stated that the export was approved by National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL).
While wheat and broken rice exports were prohibited to increase domestic supply, outbound shipments are permitted when the government gives certain countries permission to do so in order to meet their food security needs and upon request.
