Kamarajar Port Handles Cape Size Large Vessel

CHENNAI: The State owned Kamarajar Port at Ennore in Chennai suburb has acquired the capacity to handle cape size vessels with its privately developed terminal expanding its jetty to handle higher parcel size vessels.  With the expansion of the jetty facility developed by the Chettinad International Coal Terminal, the port can handle Cape size vessels of 287.50 meters overall length and draft of 16 meters. The length of the terminal has been expanded to 347.50 meters so that it can easily accommodate such huge vessels.

The shore unloaded installed at the jetty has the outreach of up to 42 meters to handle such vessels.

The vessel carrying imported steam coal from Indonesia mv Minoan Falcon with a higher parcel size of 88,000 metric tons arrived at the Chettinad Terminal of the Ennore Port on October 18.

The discharge rate of coal from the vessel at the terminal was maintained at 22,000 tons per hour. The vessel completed the discharge in 40 hours and left the port.

The DWT of the vessel is 92,700 Metric tons and it is the highest DWT vessel ever handled at the Terminal. The vessel arrived with a draft of 14.85 meters and the beam of 38 meters.

The imported coal cargo was brought for a private power plant run OPG Power Generation PVT Limited. The Chettinad terminal has been developed with the state of the art infrastructure to handle coal in a pollution free environment. The coal discharged from the jetty to the stackyard is being conveyed through closed conveyor system of about 2.5 kilometers. The automated truck and wagon loading stations are established inside the stackyard to reduce the overall turn round time of the trucks and wagons.
