Fiji’s export sector has enormous opportunities and must be fully utilised by Fijian businesses.

Investment Fiji chief executive, Godo Mueller-Teut, said lucrative incentives have been put in place to provide an impetus for growth of Fiji’s export sector.

Fiji’s domestic exports valued more than $1.2 billion last year.

“A number of incentives include duty free importation of plants and machinery that can utilized to produce and export goods from Fiji and extension of tax free regions from 2018 to 2018. Fiji also has one of the lowest corporate tax rates of 20 per cent in the world,” Mr Mueller-Teut said.

Mr Mueller-Teut also said emphasis should also be on emerging exporters to assist and encourage them to expand their horizons.

One of the ways Investment Fiji, he says has been doing just that is through the Prime Minister’s International Business Awards.

The Awards, that features 12 exciting categories representing sectors from across the economy will reward an emerging exporter who has achieved extraordinary milestone within a short period of time.

“The Emerging Exporter of the Year Award will recognize hard work, innovation and success for exporters from any sector.

“For any business to win, they must have developed niche markets through their dedication and creativity,” Mr Mueller-Teut said.

Proud sponsors of the category, Fiji Development Bank says it continues to focus on economic development of the nation and strongly supports in developing export capabilities for Small and Medium Enterprises to build their capacity in exploring international markets.

“As a sponsor for the Emerging Exporter of the Year Award at the 2017 Prime Minister’s International Business Awards, the FDB is excited to see Fijians emerging as exporters and contributing to the development of our nation”, said the acting chief executive officer of Fiji Development Bank, Saiyad Hussain.

Last year’s winner, Green Gold Kava is already benefiting from the Awards as their products are more recognised in the international market.

“Since winning the Emerging Exporter of the Year Award, we have had our share of success and rewards.

“The award has put Green Gold Kava in the limelight and has been recognised as a credible kava export company to engage and trade with,” said Praveen Narayan, the owner of the business.

The applications for the Awards close on Friday September 15. Potential applicants are urged to visit www.iba.org.fj for further information.
