SRI CITY: Andhra Pradesh is emerging as the third leading Maritime State in the Country after Gujarat and Maharashtra dislodging Tamil Nadu by working in close collaboration with Central Government and developing several ports in the State, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandra Babu Naidu said recently. Mr Naidu who was in Sri City in connection with the inauguration of an Industrial unit said that the State already has six full fledged ports. The Centre has announced the setting up of a Major Port at Durgarajapatnam between Krishnapatnam and Ennore Ports.
The State Government is assisting the setting up of a private port at Bhavanapadu. It is a viable project and we are going ahead with it. Another Major Port is being planned at Vodarevu in cooperation with the Central Government. Union Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari had recently announced the setting of two new ports in Andhra Pradesh. The Central Government has cleared setting up of four Coastal Economic Zones on the lines of Special Economic Zones in Visakhapatnam Port, Krishnapatnam Port and at Yerpedu. The fourth site is being finalized.
Mr Naidu said the State Government proposed to set up two more cities like Sri city near Chennai to attract investments. Land is available in their area in abundance. Several thermal plants are being set up around Krishnapatnam Port and therefore uninterrupted power supply is being assured to the industry, added Mr. Naidu.
