NAGPUR: Continuing action on traders evading local body tax (LBT), Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has caught five garment shops on the wrong foot. The shops owned by Khemani family has paid LBT of Rs5.42 lakh against liability of Rs24 lakh.
Assistant commissioner (LBT) Milind Meshram told TOI total import of goods by five shops amout to around Rs12.30 crore. "Search and seizure operation was conducted at the shops named Rachit Collection, Shree Garments, Shree Amar Garments, Sanskar Collections and Hind Mata Garments. It was noticed that goods were being imported through Inland Transporters and Pal Goods Garage to the shops without any invoices and carrying transport bill in the name of M/s MRK, which is not registered under LBT.
The vehicles carrying the goods were followed to witness goods being delivered at Rachit Collection and Shree Garments, Gandhibagh. Data revealed collective purchases of goods worth around Rs12.30 crore between April 1, 2013 and June 2014. Dealer paid only Rs5.42 lakh against Rs24 lakh. There were also other various types of violations," he said.
