The first shipments of carabao mangoes from the Philippines are supposedly due in a few weeks. The Philippines is anticipated to begin exporting mangoes to Australia. Protocols to ship mangoes to Australia have been in place since 2016, but the industry is now prepared to begin exports during Australia's winter months, according to a statement from the Philippine Embassy in Canberra.
According to Hellen B. De La Vega, the Philippine ambassador to Australia, "Australians have been enjoying dried mangoes [from the Philippines] for many years and they have become a popular healthy snack in Australia."
"Australians can now enjoy our much-loved fruit, "The Philippines, according to Ambassador De La Vega, produce mangoes all year long, in contrast to Australia, where the season typically begins in late August and lasts until early March.
To ensure that Filipinos and Australians can both enjoy [this] national fruit of the Philippines all year long, she said, "the winter season is the best time to make [Philippine mangoes] available in the market."
Australia imported 726 tonnes of fresh mangoes during the most recent fiscal year, according to Hort Innovation. Thailand was the largest provider, followed by Pakistan, Mexico, India, and Brazil.
The "Manila mango" or "Philippine mango" is another name for the sweet, well-known carabao mango. According to the
export import data, Australia imported a limited amount of mangoes from the Philippines in 2004.
