HANOI, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam earned 26 billion U.S. dollars from exporting phones and their components in the first eight months of this year, up 14.8 percent year-on-year, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said on Monday.
Last year, Vietnam exported 34.3 billion U.S. dollars worth of phones and their components, mainly to the European Union, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, South Korea and Southeast Asia.
In the first eight months of this year, Vietnam also spent over 8.7 billion U.S. dollars importing phones and their components, up 33.3 percent.
By the end of June, Vietnam, with a population of some 95 million, had 126.5 million fixed and mobile phone subscribers, including 119.4 million mobile ones, according to the Vietnam Telecommunications Authority.
