  • Turkey aims to export 300 million USD worth of cherries

Hayrettin Ucak, the president of Aegean Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Exporters' Association, has announced the 2019 goals for cherry exports. Ucak said: "We plan to increase the volume of our cherry exports from 76 thousand tons to 100 thousand tons, and increase our revenue from 162 million USD (144,5 million Euro) to 250-300 million USD (223-267 million Euro)."

Stating that Turkey's fresh fruits and vegetables exports were worth around 2 billion 300 million USD, Ucak said: "The share of cherries in this is 162 million USD. We exported 76 thousand tons last year. We want to increase our exports and we plan to enter the Chinese market. We know that cherries are a valuable product in China."

"We will increase our exports"

Ucak emphasized that Germany, Russia, Norway, the Netherlands and Denmark are top importers of Turkish cherries.

"We want to maximize our markets. This isn't only for cherries but for all our fresh produce. Agriculture is very important for Turkey. We also value this a lot. We hope to increase our exports." said Ucak.

Ucak pointed to the high volume of production and added: "Our cherry producers really work hard. Therefore we want them to earn what they deserve. We want everyone to win, including our producers and exporters. We hope that 2019 will be a productive year."
