Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari will visit Visakhapatnam and the port soon to inaugurate several projects, according to Visakhapatnam Port Trust Chairman MT Krishnababu.
Briefing the media on the Minister’s visit here, Krishnababu said several major projects had been taken up in recent years at the port in the public-private partnership (PPP) mode as also several projects to improve road connectivity to the port. The Minister will inaugurate two post-panamax rail-mounted quay cranes and equipment at the container terminal on Friday, 13th July afternoon. He will open the Essar group upgraded iron ore handling complex, and inaugurate West Quay 7 and 8 berths constructed at a cost of Rs. 243 crore.
Mr. Gadkari will lay the foundation stones for several projects taken up under the Bharatmala programme such as the Sabbavaram-Sheelanagar road project at a cost of Rs. 549 crore, the six-laning of the Anandapuram-Anakapalle section of NH-16 at a cost of Rs. 2,013 crore.
Krishnababu said the Chairmen of the 12 Major Ports and senior officials of the National Highways Authority of India would participate in a review meeting to be conducted by the Minister on Friday, 13th July.
