  • India Expected To Earn Rs 30 Crore From Rose Export Ahead Of Valentine’s Day

Flowers are an integral part of every major celebration. From weddings to birthday parties, a bouquet of flower is the most sought after and well-liked present for any occasion. While people can have different preferences as to which flower would they like to buy, lilies, primroses, Polianthes tuberosa or Rajnigandha can light up any room with their fragrance.

Roses are most primarily used to display affection for the other person and hence, gain most prominence during Valentine’s day. On Valentine’s Day, the price of one single rose can shoot up to around Rs 100.

These exorbitant prices benefit farmers the most and this year their production revenue will skyrocket to Rs 30 crore. As per a report in Hindustan Times, rose cultivators from Maval and surrounding areas of Pune district are expecting a 15-20 per cent increase in revenue earned from rose exports.

The reason behind this bumper hike is due to a good winter season as well as an increase in the production area. The farmers from Pune district will even export roses to Western Countries.

Due to appropriate climatic conditions like more sunlight, moderate temperature and humidity accompanied by cheap labour, India is home to a large floral industry. Reportedly, total revenue earned from export of rose in February 2019 is expected to touch Rs 30 crore as against Rs 23 crore earned in February 2018.

Since a lot of farmers have turned to floriculture this year instead of traditional farming, the rose production is expected to reap a huge amount.

The ‘Top Secret’ red roses are the most popular followed by pink coloured ‘revival’ rose and white coloured ‘Avalanche rose’. Avalanche rose is the most sought after flower for vintage weddings.

Reportedly, Talegaon-based Indian Society of Floriculture Professionals (ISFP) made Rs 24 crore from roses exported to UK, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore followed by special orders for Valentine season by Gulf countries by the end of November 2018.
