China exports and imports show robust demand and domestic strength

BEIJING: China’s exports continued their robust performance sustained by strong domestic demand for imports. Exports increased 6.9 per cent in dollar terms in October from a year earlier, the Customs Department said. Imports advanced 17.2 per cent year on year as the trade surplus stood at CNY254.5 billion (US$38.3 billion).

“The stronger yuan has more or less hurt exports," said Zhu Qibing, Chief macro-economy analyst at BOC International China in Beijing. "Global demand edged down last month but the overall trend is steady throughout next year. External demand will continue to support China's economy."
