CHENNAI: Chennai Port the East coast's Gateway Port surpassed its own record in Container handling on March 10th, when the vessel m.v. HS EVEREST called at the 2nd Container Terminal Chennai International Container Terminal Pvt Ltd.
The terminal handled 7188 TEU s from the vessel m.v. HS EVEREST, the highest so far by a single vessel. The record surpasses the feat of handling 6508 TEUs achieved by the Ports' 1st Container Terminal Chennai Container Terminal Pvt Ltd, when the vessel m.v.Maersk Sebarok called on 09-02-2016.
Chairman of Chennai Port Trust Cyril C George stated that the two back to back record performances in a single month have shown that the measures taken by Chennai Port and stakeholders are yielding positive results and thanked all the stakeholders including the terminal operators for their contribution in achieving the above record. He stressed that the Port would continuously strive to achieve improved performance and productivity in order to attract more volumes.
