CHENNAI : For the first time in the history of Chennai Port, around 60,000 Tonnes of export cargo barytes in bulk was loaded on to the Gearless Vessel SILVER NAVIGATOR at Jawahar Dock II with a sailing draft of 12.5 Mtrs few days ago, surpassing the previous highest of 55,000 Tonnes of dry bulk handled through any vessel at the inner harbour.
According to the sources, the 100 Tonnes High Capacity Harbour Mobile Cranes were used to load the cargo. It may be noted here that Jawahar Dock II will be able to berth vessels with upto 14 mtrs draft once dredging of the channel is completed, for which DCI dredger is on its way to Chennai from Vizag.
The proactive measures of Chennai Port Trust, as part of its initiative Mission Resurge Chennai Port, has given results by attracting more cargo to the Port. Chennai Port has showcased that it is capable of handling such type of challenging cargoes.
The Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the port trust thanked the Steamer Agent lnfinity Shipping, and Stevedore B.L.Transport, Port Users and employees for their efforts while looking forward to the continuous support of the Vessel Agents and Stevedores in bringing more such Cargoes to Chennai Port.
