CHENNAI: Chennai Port has informed that as per the requests of the Auto OEMs & Ro-Ro vessel operators and based on the Ministry of Shipping initiative under "SAGAR MALA" a Special Concession on Vessel Related Charges (VRC) are levied as under, says a release on 30th April ‘16’

Concession Scheme on Vessel Related Charges

To extend 35% reduction in VRC to Coastal Liners / Agents authorised by the Liners on the applicable SoR for Coastal Vessels as Special Concessional Rates on trial basis as a promotional measure.

The concession is subject to the following conditions:

1.            The Liner/Agents authorised by the Liner should achieve a minimum of 18 threshold voyages in a year i.e., 75% of the 24 voyages projected.

2.            Vessels claiming concession shall not call / have called the competing neighbouring Ports viz Kamarajar Port Limited and Kattupalli Port for the voyages which are reckoned for concession in Chennai Port.

3.            35% concession in VRC to Coastal RoRo vessels on the applicable rates specified in SoR for Coastal Vessels shall be claimed at the end of the year ie., after 31-03-2017 by the Liner/Agents authorised by the Liner on achieving of the threshold voyages. Thus in effect, the total proposed concession will amount to 61% on the rates applicable to the foreign going vessels.

4.            The concessional rates shall be applicable with effect from 01-04-2016 for one year till 31-03-2017 on trial basis and it shall bereviewed at the appropriate time, if required.

5.            New coastal RoRo Liners commencing their business in the middle of the year shall also be eligible on pro-rata basis from the month of starting the service upto 31.03.2017, provided the service is rendered for a minimum period of a quarter during the year.

The concessional vessel related charges shall be levied retrospectively with effect from 01.04.2016 to 31.03.2017.

Chennai Port takes the lead in starting the Coastal RORO Voyages between Chennai Port and West Coast Ports. This will consolidate the leadership position of Chennai Port in handling RoRo cargo.
