PANJIM : Mormugao Port Trust added yet another shining feather to its cap, when it successfully berthed one of the largest cape size cargo vessel M.V. Cape Jupiter of LOA 289 mtrs carrying a parcel of 120,095 metric tons bulk coal at the newly constructed Berth No.7 of Adani Mormugao Port Terminal Private Limited on Dec 13.
According to official sources, this is the largest import cargo parcel size handled at Mormugao Port Trust, till date, achieving yet another record. The vessel arrived in Mormugao waters on Dec 7 with a loaded draft of 17.81 Mtrs and carrying a total quantity of 163,882 metric tons in 9 ships hold. The vessel was lightened at anchorage and about 43,787 MT bulk coal was unloaded into barges for shore discharge.
Adani Mormugao Port Terminal Private Limited is providing end to end logistic solution to their esteemed Importer BMM Ispat Limited, Hospet, who migrated to Goa and diverted this Coal vessel from Krishnapatnam Port.
It may be recalled that the first ever cape size vessel M.V. TASIK MELATI carrying bulk coal was handled at the Port on Nov 23rd at the Jindal South West Port at Berth No. 6 followed by another Cape Size vessel M.V. CAPE GRACE on Dec 12, thereby commencing a new trend for handling bulk carriers at the port.
According to a senior official, the Port is now poised to handle regular import cargo traffic by handling Cape size vessels, thereby facilitating larger import volumes at the Port.
