NEW ORLEANS - To take advantage of the increasing trade opportunities with India, the Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans reached an agreement with Samsara Shipping Pvt Ltd to represent the Port in the 10th-largest economy in the world.

“The Port of New Orleans is well positioned for growth in imported steel products, as it offers excellent connectivity via barge, rail and truck to major oil and gas projects in the United States and Canada,” said Gary LaGrange, Port President and CEO.

“With India’s fast-paced economic growth, we see opportunities to grow two-way trade between the Port and India through a variety of commodities.”

LaGrange said while the marketing focus will be on steel for oil and gas projects, the Port will also target apparel, furniture, machinery and retail merchandise.

Mukesh Oza, Group President and CEO, Samsara Group India, said it is a privilege to represent the Port of New Orleans in India and adds a feather to the diversified shipping portfolio held by Samsara.
