|Subject||Italy exports menswear worth €5.2bn in 2013: SMI|
The Southern European country of Italy, exported menswear worth € 5.24 billion during the 2013 year, as per the data released by the Sistema Moda Italia (SMI), the Italian Fashion System and association of textile entrepreneurs.
According to the Industry of Italian Men’s Fashion report of SMI, in 2013, the country exported menswear worth €5.24 billion, indicating an increase of 3.7 percent compared to the €5.05 billion worth of menswear exports in 2012.
Subsector wise, during the twelve months of 2013, the highest increase in exports were recorded in the men’s shirts category registering a rise of 4.1 percent year-on-year, followed by men’s knitwear with 4 percent, and men’s outerwear with 2.9 percent increase during 2013, compared to 2012. However, during 2013, exports of ties incurred a decline of 7.8 percent year-on-year.
France ranked first with Italy exporting menswear worth € 519 million to the country, followed by Switzerland with € 408 million, Germany with € 392 million, US with € 386 million, the UK with € 340 million and Spain with € 238 million. The European Union (EU) remained the main destination for Italian menswear exports during 2013, accounting for nearly 53 percent of the total menswear exports from the country.
Meanwhile, in terms of imports, the country imported menswear worth € 3.3 billion last year, showing a decline of 4.9 percent, compared to 2012, when the country imported menswear worth € 3.5 billion.
