KOLKATA: Following the recent visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Yangon for the BIMSTEC Summit, the Indian engineering industry has decided to hold a mega engineering summit there to forge new level of trade and investment relations with Myanmar, currently one of the most attractive destinations of foreign investment.

This clearly shows a great significance that India attaches in forging strategic and business ties with Myanmar, official sources said Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry E M S Natchiappan.

USD to augment trade between two countries," said Dr Natchiappan.

Hailing the performance of Indian engineering exports he said EEPC India, the premier body of engineering exporters, had done a yeoman's service to boost the country's export performances during the past many years.

Referring to the scopes of setting up large number of joint venture agreements between Indian and Myanmar companies, he said.

Also speaking on the occasion EEPC India Chairman Anupam Shah said New Delhi was working with Yangon to improve physical connectivity through a number of mega projects like India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway, the Kaladan Multimodal Transit Transport Project, the Asian Highway Network, the ASEAN Master Plan for Connectivity and others.
