This notification amends the Customs (Settlement of Cases) Rules, 1999

Notification No. 20/2000-Cus. (NT)


            In exercise of the powers conferred by section 156 of the Customs Act, 1962 (52 of 1962), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Customs (Settlement of Cases) Rules, 1999, namely:-

  1. (1) These rules may be called the Customs (Settlement of Cases) (Amendment) Rules, 2000.
  1. They shall come in to force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.
2. In rule 5 of the Customs (Settlement of Cases) Rules, 1999, in sub-rule (2) after the words "the Commissioner may authorise any officer sub-ordinate to him " the words " and not below the rank of an Assistant Commissioner of Customs or an Assistant Commissioner of Central Excise, as the case may be" shall be inserted.
